Social Change Initiative Publishes Key Messages Ahead of UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants

The Social Change Initiative (SCI) works on improving the effectiveness of activism for progressive social change and influencing how such work is funded by donors. Migration is a priority issue for SCI and with support from HDF, have been facilitating a series of discussions and exchanges with activists and thinkers, notably trying to influence the public narrative and supporting civil society to more effectively influence the political and policy debate.  Ahead of the forthcoming UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants on 19th September, SCI published a note of fundamental principles, advocacy messages and specific “asks” that could be used by civil society organizations to urge the Summit to adopt the level of ambition necessary for reform of the system and in proposing specific recommendations for advancing refugee protection and solutions.

The note and messages, which can be read here, follow on from a meeting convened by SCI in Dublin at the end June and a discussion paper commissioned by SCI and written by Professor T. Alexander Aleinikoff of the Global Policy Initiative at Columbia University.
