Safe Hands for Girls
Maximising Opportunities and Building Organisation Capacity
Grant amount: $191,000
Time frame: May 2016 – April 2017
Safe Hands for Girls creates awareness about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and its harmful effects; helps fight to eliminate it; and provides support to survivors of the practice.
As a survivor-led organization Safe Hands for Girls understands that FGM deprives its victims of the opportunities for health, happiness, and fulfilment potential that most people take for granted. Safe Hands for Girls primarily works in Clarkson, GA and South West Atlanta where there are thriving immigrant communities, mostly from FGM-prevalent countries such as Gambia, Senegal, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
