Afrika Tikkun* was established in 1994 with the aim of redressing the inequities of apartheid and helping disadvantaged children realise their inherent potential. Afrika Tikkun focusses on three main programme areas; Early Childhood Development, Child and Youth Development and Youth Skills Development and Placement. This Empowerment project is situated within the Child and Youth Development Programme. Empowering children and youth to protect themselves and enabling them to have a voice to speak out, when they are at risk and their rights are threatened, is the focus of the Afrika Tikkun Child and Youth Empowerment Programme. The project objectives are to empower children, youth and their families to understand their rights. To build on existing self-advocacy groups and expand the development of self-advocacy groups among other children in Afrika Tikkun communities who are at risk of, or experiencing, child abuse, harmful traditional practices and other human rights violations.
